Bridges to the unknown established a partnership with BoCa - Bienal de Arte Contemporânea de Portugal and hosted the renowned composer and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini, at the Champalimaud Center Amphitheater.

Insight Inside

Open Dialogue @ Insight Inside Exhibition: 22 June, 7:30pm

 

The exhibition Insight Inside is the latest work by Clo Bourgard, in which the artist recycled waste materials from the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown's laboratories and clinic, in order to create sculptures that incite a reflection on the inner aesthetics of the human being.

The first edition of the art-science residency programme features multimedia artist Tupac Martir and visual artist Clo Bourgard, working in synergy with researchers and health professionals from the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown.

Haita

Haita @ Sonar+ Festival Lisboa - 27 April 2022

Satore Studio’s installation Haita emerged from the art-science residency of the artist Tupac Martir, creative director and founder of Satore Studio, at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown. Haita was unveiled at Sonar+ in Lisbon. 

The piece was born from the exercise of imagining how a dancer’s choreography could be explored inside out, through cutting-edge scientific and creative technology developed by the studio.

New form of surgical remote supervision takes its first steps

Yesterday, May 5th, at 3p.m. (Lisbon time), surgeon Pedro Gouveia was in the operating room, at the Breast Unit of the Champalimaud Foundation, in Lisbon, ready to start, as in so many other occasions, performing breast cancer surgery. Meanwhile, another surgeon from the same unit, the young Spaniard Rogelio Andrés-Luna, was attending the operation, and intervening, when needed, by supplying Pedro Gouveia with additional information to help him – and even guide his gestures. Everything seems to be business as usual – but it isn’t.

I hold a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD in Molecular Biosciences from NOVA University, Lisbon. After completing my PhD project, I moved to Texas (USA) for an internship in High-Performance Computing. This experience allowed me to discover how supercomputers can contribute to making science more efficient and productive.

This first Check Up is about the resurgence of cancer once the disease has been controlled by treatment. Do these terms used to talk about this problem mean the same thing?

Relapse, recurrence, recidivation. These words all mean the same thing in general terms: the disease is back.

However, there are differences between them when it comes to their clinical and medical meaning, which many people are not aware of.
