Leonor Parreira is Cathedratic Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Lisbon University, where she is also Director of the Histology and Developmental Biology Institute. Prof. Parreira coordinated the Research Support Office of the same Faculty and was a member of its Pedagogical and Scientific Board.
Specialising in Haematology, Prof. Parreira worked at Santa Maria University hospital until 1988. Prof. Parreira performed research at the Royal Post-Graduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London (Haemato-oncology), at the Gulbenkian Institute of Science, and at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, where she created the Haematopoietic Biology Unit.
Prof. Parreira was a member of the Toscano Tumori Institute’s Scientific Advisor Board from 2012 until 2015, and of the National Council on Medically Assisted Procreation, 2007-2008.
Prof. Parreira was President of the Lisbon Medical Sciences Society and is a full member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine. Prof. Parreira directed the first doctoral programme for clinical doctors in the country, created in 2008 by the Gulbenkian Foundation, in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation, the Ministry of Health, and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Prof. Parreira was a member of the Evaluation Panel for Doctorate and Post-Doctorate Grants in Science and Health at the FCT and its coordinator between 2004 and 2010.
Prof. Parreira has authored multiple scientific publications in international journals, with her work recognised through several awards.
