Graduated in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 2001. He pursued his doctoral work with the Gulbenkian PhD Programme in Biology and Medicine, studying the Neurobiology of Learning Behaviours with Florian Engert at Harvard University. He joined the Champalimaud Foundation to launch the António Champalimaud Vision Award in 2006. In 2015, he moved to Lisbon, where he worked to launch the newly built Foundation Clinical and Research Centre’s Institutional Review Board/ Ethics Council and Vision-related programmes, such as the UM Cure 2020 Consortium.
